LOCAL782 will be hosting a Silk-Screening Workshop at the Korova on June 2nd at 7pm presented by Ernesto Olivo and Jorge Gonzalez.

This instructional workshop will give you an interactive educational D.I.Y. perspective on the art of silk-screening. There will be a full hands-on demonstration so bring a blank t-shirt and make your very own.
We invite musicians,organizations,promoters,and businesses to come and learn to make your very own merchandise.

Americans spend 8.5 hours a day absorbing media from TV, computers, phones, and video games. Children ages 8-18 watch 4.5 hours of television a day, seeing more than 25,000 commercial messages before they even start school.

This year, April 18-24, the interfaith So We Might See Coalition is organizing a week-long Media Fast: Screen-Free Week to celebrate activities that reconnect us with nature, art, reading, and the world around us.

What is National Poetry Month? National Poetry Month is a month-long, national celebration of poetry established by the Academy of American Poets. The concept is to widen the attention of individuals and the media—to the art of poetry, to living poets, to our complex poetic heritage, and to poetry books and journals of wide aesthetic range and concern. We hope to increase the visibility and availability of poetry in popular culture while acknowledging and celebrating poetry’s ability to sustain itself in the many places where it is practiced and appreciated.

Local Media & Local Culture: What Does It All Mean for the Music Scene?

adio stations, blogs, social networks, alt-weeklies, oh my. But what do local media really mean for the music scene? For this session, members of Boston’s music community will be joined by national media advocacy experts and organizers to discuss the merits and challenges of geographically-rooted media. Do local media really matter in the age of the Internet? How does the local media ecology work to support the music community in a city like Boston? Why should artists, bloggers, journalists, club owners, fans and anyone else who loves local music care about media policy? And what is possible when media and musicians work together to create a stronger local music scene?

WHY: With greater understanding of an individual community comes better service on the part of media. At the same time, as the public achieves a more thorough understanding of media’s role in civic life, individuals become better equipped to use media services.
